webMessage: wmClient
Amazing, amazing, amazing. In the past couple hours I've virtually finished my webMessage project. Now, when you come to this page, you hit the "START CHAT" button and if I've got my webMessage Server running, it'll connect and we can both chat to each other, realtime. It doesn't have any of that really anoying page refreshes every few seconds or any of the other nasty stuff usually associated with web based chat. For now you can only chat with me, not other people looking at the page at the same time, but I'll probably be able to write that capability into it as well, and very soon at the rate I'm going. I'm sure there are a few bugs to still work out of it, but hey, at least it works. One drawback at the moment is that only one person can be chatting with me at a time. I intend to do something about this, but I don't think it'll really be a problem anyways, my site isn't exactly something that would interest more than a few of my friends and so conflicts probably won't arise. I'm not sure what I should do with this webMessage thing once it's fully completed. I could try selling it to web masters or something, I suppose. Or I could release it to the public for free, sort of give something back for all the free stuff I use. I guess I'll work something out. At any rate, try it out!
I have truely amazed myself by allready finishing a large portion of my webMessage Java program. You simply type into the box above what you want to say to me, press the "Send Message" button, and it appears in a window I have running. This does, however, require that I be running my side of the thing as well, but I think that will be the case most of the time. Just the same, you should probably send a small test message and check out the result (the little line of text at the bottom of the applet) to make sure that it's working, so you don't waste your time with any large messages that are doomed to not go through. At this point, I still can't say anything back to you, which really does limit a conversation's potential. Me being able to send messages back will be the next step of my project, and if I work anywhere near as fast on it as I did on this, it should be done in just a few days (it'll be a lot harder).
Hello, you have reached the web page of Morgan Sherwood, I'm sorry, but this answering service is not currently operational. Please come back later, and leave a message. Thank you.
Okay..... This is where I'll put that Java thing I'm working on so that you can send me realtime messages. You'll be able to type into a little thing, click a little button, and somewhere, somehow, I will recieve your message and, at my discretion, be able to respond to it. Hopefully. Untill then, whatever progress I make on this project will be posted here.
