September 9, 1998, 7:00pm ~ 7:30pm

School. Ugh. Oh well, it could be worse, I could be going to a real school. Actually, it's not generally that bad. The student body is increadibly diverse, which is very nice. As a white guy, I'm now part of a(nother) distinct minority at the school. This is fine, the diversity is wide spread enough that discrimation is hardly even contemplatable for the students. An interesting note, though, all of the teachers seem to be white. Oh well.

My classes consist of: US(/VA) History, P.E., Art, and English 11, in that order.

History's pretty cool, as I've got a good teacher. She really lets us discuss things openly and challenge what she's saying; very good teacher. Another student, from another country, kept challenging what she was saying today and presenting bizzare historical "facts" of his own. When challenged by the teacher, and everyone else, he would just say that every country has it's own version of history (and that America's isn't neccesarilly correct). Very amusing, I thought, frightening too. Great other students (about 14 of them, I think) in the class.

P.E./health is a little weird. This is the first year that Pimmit's had to enstate it, and they're very unprepared for it. They did, however, manage to pull in a very profesional, if overly energetic/odd, teacher. It's actually held in a classroom, there is no gym; it's a fairly small classroom at that. Space isn't much of a problem though, with only 10 students in the class This in mind, we're going to be doing a lot of stuff outdoors. We'll be walking a mile each day; boring, but not tough and a good time filler. We played volley-ball today and were very surprised to find out we don't completely suck at it. When she starts getting weird (she wants to do a lot of dancing...) I'll inevitably make mention of it here.

Art looks like it's going to be pretty easy (duh) and is shapping up to also be kind of fun. One of my favorite combinations. We do various things where we draw a picture of the same subject however we want, with suggestions from the teacher, and we do things where he shows us a technique and asks that we try to implement it, and helps us out. I don't think I should have any trouble there at all. Good.

Lunch. Brown bagging on a bench in the hall. I know people in class and can talk to them fine, soon enough I'll hopefully actually be one of them, the social groups and such. Perhaps such diversity could bring some level of community without too much conformity?

English. This'll be the class with the most work, but most of it should be pretty easy. I've allready demonstrated my knowledge in a couple pre-tests (some of the same subject matter I covered in summer school English 10). So the only problem I might have with it would be actually doing the work, which should, itself, be pretty easy. Again I'm with a very good group of people and am allready recognized and greated. Very nice.

Alas, time to go, Original Star Trek: Spiffy Edition is coming on. I'll talk about the school boards introduction of the Pledge of Allegiance into public high schools next time, perhaps. Also, I might make a very brief mention on my Pagan page about appropriate happenings. We'll see...

September 7, 1998, 5:12pm ~ 5:59pm

I guess it's been a while since I've really updated this site, so I'll give a brief history of what's been happening with me recently.

I'm obviously not at Burning Man, even though the event is taking place right now. I was getting all set to go, I had a ticket, lots of money for supplies, time to prepare, etc. But then my parents went and got scared, started thinking I might die in the harsh desert environment, that I don't have the experience necessary to remain anything but a casualty, and thus the fear of death made them pull the plug on my chance to live.

In other news, I'm going back to school. This is not a happy time, as should be fairly obvious. It's not, however, going to be a mainstream style/ghetto/pop contest kind of school, it's more a school for people who didn't take their chance years ago to graduate (a group I'd be all too happy to join, if it were legally permited) and various other rejects. Courses only take one semester to complete, rather than the usual pair, which makes the quickly aging school authorities all proudly say that anyone who attends finishes in half the time. They fail, however, to mention that one can only take half the number of courses as would normally be available. So, instead of taking about 7 or 8 classes a day, for a year, I'll be taking 4 (somewhat longer) classes a day for each of the two halves of the year. a compromise I prefer, but still an amusing (and sickening) example of the mentallity of this nation's school boards and their cronies. The result: very early tomorrow, around the time I'd normally go to bed, I must head out on my hour and a half commute to Pimmit Hills, where everyone is treated as an adult (with the mentallity of a four year old).

Still more news from the middle of it all (and always sinking deeper): I've finally gone and quit my job at the bagel place. I've got one more day next weekend, fullfilling a self prescribed, two-week long, I'll-kiss-up-and-you-recomend-me-to-my-next-prospective-employer probation. Finally I'll not need to, upon request, squeeze the appearantly unhealthy life-joice out of customers pig-bits and then scoop some chunks of shredded chicken flesh into a dainty little cup for them to take on their merry way. Instead of this gruelling and morally repulsive task, I'll be busy studdying for my aforementioned schooling, perhaps something equally gruelling and morally repulsive.

I have a nice list of 30 movies I've seen recently that are just screaming (it's a terrifying thing, really) to be reviewed, but I guess they, and you, will just have to wait. I'll attempt to update this page again sometime soon, but there's no telling when that'll actually be, what with school and life and such.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

August 28:

update coming soon (hopefully).

July 6, '98, 6:08pm

Well, I've got a job. I'm working at the Chesapeake Bagel Bakery. Frankly, it's a pain. Lot's of hard, tedious work. But hey, I'm going to get paid, and that's why I'm doing it. It's not all that bad, but it really is exausting and time consuming. I'm working Friday to Sunday, and then summer schooling on Monday to Thursday. I've lost what little life I had and become a drone. I'm a self aware drone, but a drone nontheless. Damn capitalism (not that I have any real alternatives for this world on hand).

Anyway, while you're here, check out my movie reviews, I've added a couple and more are on the way real soon.

June 14, '98, 4:36am

I've added a bunch of new stuff to the "I Like" section. My primary motivation in adding to it is explained within it.

In case you care (why else would you be reading my page...), I'm going to be attending summer school. I'm going to be taking English 10 (ugh, how degrading). Basicly, this makes it easier for me to persue more standard schooling in the future, if I feel like it then. I'm also looking for a job. My (somewhat) immediate need for money is for Burning Man, as mentioned below. I have a lot of other uses for money as well though, of course. None of you know of any job oppertunities for me, do you...?

[Burning Man]
Wow, this Burning Man thing looks amazing! Well, I know what I'm doing that week (August 31 to September 7). I very much encourage you to check out their web page, it can tell you about it far better than I can. Suffice it to say, I'm going to be making every effort to attend. If you're thinking of going, contact me. We may not work anything out, but I'd be curious to know.

On a (sort of) different note, I've just purchased a book called Wicca A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner, by Scott Cunningham and published by Llewellyn (a well known and respected publisher of such books). I haven't read too much of it yet, but it looks to be very promising, and as I get further into it I'll try to review it a bit on my Pagan page.

June 04, '98, 3:33pm

I thought I'd mention that I've removed the Quake2 section from this site. No need to tell people I've got Quake2 stuff when I haven't really. I still may very well do some Quake2 editing of my own (I have made some very small and silly levels allready), and if I do anything really noteworthy, I'll put the section back. Also, I've updated the People section a little bit.

On my mind these past couple days has been the prospect of creating my own virtual world. Initially I would create some sort of MUD system, and a world or two to go with it. Eventually, I dream, I could create a full 3D interactive system, similar to Active Worlds and VRML, but so much more, drawing lots of inspiration from Neal Stevenson's (?) Snow Crash (which, btw, I highly recomend). That's for tomorow though, for now I'll see if, with Courtney's assistance, I can make my MUD system. Anyway, enough dreaming and back to my life (heheh....).

[No DIVX]
I've just come accross this No DIVX thing when looking at Quake2.com. I totally support this anti DIVX movement and suggest you read up on and consider it too. Remember that this is NOT the same as DVD, which is great; though I'd recomend holding off buying a DVD-ROM drive, if it's for you computer. If you're going to spend all that money, you might as well get the real thing, a DVD-RAM drive. Anyway, dinner time...

(May 6, '98, 2:13am (do I have interesting sleeping habits?))
I've touched up the people section a bit, and I wanted to make sure I noted my new email address: sherwood7@erols.com. Okay, that's it. I'm gonna get to bed now (*gasp!*), but I will try to update this site more real soon.

(April 25, '98, 2.19am (GMT-5(+1)))
Just a very small update to show my presence on this Earth is still probable. I'm finally back home in Virginia, which, if things continue along the same line segments, ought to present a few experiences about which I can find something to say. In the mean time however, you can entertain yourself while here by reading over my old entries and marvel at the ignorance of my days as a youth, well over four months ago. Untill then... be.

February 2, '98, 9.40pm

Okay, so I haven't updated this site in a while. But who cares? I don't think that anyone ever really looks at it unless I tell them too, and then the number of people who've been told to is really quite small (about 4 now I think). But hey, I enjoy it just the same. At any rate, it seemed time to write something new here. Well, heh, what I've actually got to say is that I probably won't be updating this page again for a while. I've got a programming project that I'm working on, and potentially getting paid for ($50! whew...).

When I'm done with that I'll be returning to another coding project of mine. It's called 'Style'. It'll be a program run on a web server (servlet). The idea is that people visiting my page, or any other page running Style, will be able to specify various details about the way they want the web pages to be presented to them, and it will be remembered for future visits. These could include such things as background, font, frames, Java applets, colo(u)rs, layout, graphics, Java Script, music, and a massive range of other things. It'll take me some time to finish and perfect it of course. I'm not certain what I'll actually do with it when I'm done though. One course of action which Courtney suggested to me is releasing the program and instructions on how to use it for free and then collaborating with someone who has writen a WYSIWYG HTML editor and creating a rather cool Stylized HTML editor which could be sold comercially. I don't really know how it'll all turn out, but I do see this program as having a lot of potential and I think that I can unlock it.

Style will have to wait for now though as it's back to the other project.
Money....

December 18, '97, 4:16am

Just a quick note before I go to bed. When Kingsley tried to go to my webMessage chat program page, some of Windows kind of crashed on his computer. I don't know why this would have happened and it hasn't happened to me (okay, once, but that was early in the development). Just the same I would really like to try this program out with someone. So, if you really want to talk to me I would recomend saving whatever you're working on and then giving the thing a shot. Hopefully it'll work. Anyways, just thought it would be fair to warn you. And now you know...

December 12, '97, before dawn

I've decided to keep what I put on this main page here, in case you've gone a long time without checking my page, or you want to review an old link, or whatever. So I'll just be adding my new comments and such right here, at the top of this page, and all the old stuff will just get pushed further and further down. If it eventually gets too big I guess I may start purging things, but that's not going to be necessary any time soon.

Well, as you can see, this is not on Millennium any more. Millenium's harddrive is completely screwed and for the next month, Kingsley, the friend of mine who runs it, is away. When he gets back and it gets fixed, I may start uploading this page to it again, but this will be the most commonly updated site for it.

This reminds me, I must give very, very, very big thanks to the really increadibly cool Monolith Internet Services. They supplied me with this address (msherwood.dyn.ml.org) that I am able to update everytime I get online absolutly free! They have several totally free services similar to this. If I had any money I would definetly give a bit of it to them, as they're far more deserving of it than most of the people who charge for such services. But alas, I am broke.

Hmmm, so what is going on with me anyways? Well, I've decided that I want to pursue Paganism. I've basicly been a plain athiest all my life, but I think that being a Pagan is pretty cool. It's very open and excepting of all sorts of different views, so I can continue to be an athiest and still call myself a Pagan, as I probably will do. It's certainly far different from how Hollywood usually portrays it, with sacrifices and demon summoning/worshiping, etc. It's quite the opposite, very life, nature, and spirit oriented. I've been looking at vast amounts of web pages on the subject, many of which give information on groups (circles) and meetings and such, but I've yet to find any in Perth. I did rather want to get together with others, but I think I'll manage just the same. I guess it's just not in my path for the time.

Oh, another thing, if you're reading this then it means that I'm online right now, since it's being hosted on a web server running on my own computer. I don't usually check the familly's email account [6-16-98: don't mail me there] from my computer, nor do I check my hotmail account very often, so I'm not quite sure how you can contact me realtime. You could, if you haven't allready, hook up with ICQ and contact me through that. Actually, I've just come up with an idea. I love programming in Java and the web server I'm running is very supportive of Java applets and servlets (like applets but they run on my computer) and I may be able to work up something so you can message me from the web site. Hmmmmmm... I'm allready getting all sorts of ideas about it. Well, you can tentatively look forward to that and hopefully I'll get around to doing it.

I'm surprising myself at how much I'm writing but then again I'll probably get lazy again and not update it for a while, so savour it all.

I would love to keep on writing about stuff, but it's 3:37am right now and I'm actually rather tired, so I think I'll be getting to bed now.

Blessed be and be seeing you.

distant past...

First off, I'll give a brief explanation of my connection with millennium.wesley.wa.edu.au:
Well, basicly, I have a friend at the school (Wesley College) and he's pretty much in charge of this server. I don't actually go there, and we're not really sure how they would feel about my using their server, so well have to be quiet...

Anyways, this is the site of me, Morgan Sherwood [6-16-98: don't mail me there either], and will contain content accordingly. I hearby disclaim myself from any and all damages that may come upon you and/or your property as a direct or indirect result of viewing this and any following web material. This is not to say that I expect you will, it's mearly to fullfill a sudden impulse I had to write a completly unneccesary disclaimer, and now I am satisfied. However, if you do somehow manage to fall on your head or something while looking at my page, that disclaimer still holds true.

So, how do you like my images on the left? I'm quite proud of them. Well, that's about it for the intro, any thing else you want to know will either be on one of those pages to the left, or, well, nowhere. Have fun...
